Genetic health care for Canadians by qualified genetic counsellors

Our board-certified genetic counsellors will assist you in accessing the right genetic testing services and providing genetic counselling and follow-up care. Each session is tailored to your unique needs and questions. Whether you're planning a pregnancy, facing a positive NIPT result, managing a health or family history concern, or exploring genetic testing, we will help you make informed decisions about your health and family planning, ensuring you have the necessary resources to access care. All from the comfort of your own home.

Most of us are carriers of at least one recessive genetic disorder, and often, there are no clues in your health or family history when a person is a carrier. With GeneScreen's advanced gene screening services, we can test your DNA for up to 2,000 autosomal recessive and X-linked genetic disorders. This DNA analysis is crucial because if both you and your partner are carriers of the same disorder, each child will have a 25% (1/4) chance of being born with a serious genetic condition. Knowing this in advance of having a child allows couples to consider options for testing through prenatal diagnosis or non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), ensuring informed decisions about their family's health. Samples are collected in the comfort of your own home, with a simple saliva collection kit.

NIPT, or non-invasive prenatal testing, utilizes cell-free DNA from a blood test taken by a pregnant individual to screen for chromosomal anomalies in the fetus, such as Trisomy 13, 18, 21, and microduplication syndromes. A positive result does NOT necessarily indicate that the baby has a health problem; rather, it suggests that your pregnancy may benefit from further genetic testing services or evaluation. If you receive a positive NIPT result, we can help you understand your report, discuss your options, and guide you towards the appropriate referrals for further DNA analysis and gene screening.

If a relative or reproductive partner has been identified as a carrier of or affected by a recessive genetic disorder, we can provide you with targeted genetic testing services, including DNA analysis for the specific condition, gene, or familial variant. Samples are collected in the comfort of your own home, with a simple saliva collection kit.
We recognize that genetic health care services vary from Province to Province, and that the demand for these services is higher than the availability. Our goal is to decreased barriers (and wait times) to genetic testing, counselling, education and navigation for all Canadians.
All consultations are provided by a board-certified genetic counsellor. Our goal is to help you understand your genetic risk and explore various genetic testing services, including cell free DNA and NIPT options. We aim to assist you in making an informed decision regarding gene screening and DNA analysis that aligns with your personal goals and values.
Whether you have a specific question about your health or family history, are seeking expanded carrier testing or need assistance with navigating our genetic testing services, we can help. We offer virtual consultations, and if you decide to proceed with testing, we can provide you with an in-home saliva collection kit for cell free DNA analysis, including options for gene screening and NIPT.
